Thank you from Ethos

Thank you to all who were able to contribute to Ethos' Annual Fund. With your help, we raised more than $36,000. Your generous gifts will help our clients live longer, healthier, happier, and more active lives.  Our successes are yours, as well, and together we will continue to ensure that no matter what our age or ability, we determine the course of our lives.

Thanks to you, and others like you, thousands of seniors will continue to benefit from these wonderful programs such as Home Care, Protective Services, Meals on Wheels, Money Management, Long-Term Care Ombudsman, Companionship, Caregiver Support, Care Options Counseling and AgeWell West Roxbury, while enjoying much needed social interaction and care provided with compassion.

We are grateful for your support and look forward to sharing our future successes with you in our quarterly newsletter.  In the meantime, I invite you to visit www.ethocare.org to see first-hand the many lives your contribution has touched and the difference your support is making.

Ethos Volunteers Featured on WBZ-TV

Dear Blog,

Last evening, WBZ-TV ran a great story about Ethos' volunteers and the wonderfull work they do each day to help fulfill our mission of promoting the independence, dignity, and well-being of the elderly and disabled. If you didn't get a chance to see it, please click on the image below or here to view the story.

WBZ-TV-Ethos-Volunteer-Story

Ethos understands that with aging come many challenges.  Sometimes, a little help to address these challenges can make all the difference in allowing elders to remain at home.  We have a variety of free services than can help, as Ethos connects community volunteers with elders in Hyde Park, Jamaica Plain, Mattapan, Roslindale or West Roxbury. Interested in joining Ethos' volunteer corps? Click here to learn more.

An Ethos program that relies heavily on the support of community volunteers is our AgeWell West Roxbury initiative. The program mobilizes an army of volunteers to: deliver classes to improve or maintain health; protect rights; give rides; shovel snow, teach computer literacy, lead walking clubs and serve lunch among other activities.

You can help support the great work performed by volunteers by attending West Roxbury Rocks, a celebration to benefit the AgeWell West Roxbury and all it does to help seniors successfully age in their own communities, leading healthy and vibrant lives.

West Roxbury Rocks will be held on Friday, April 26, 2013, from 6:30 to 11:00 pm, at the Irish Social Club of Boston in West Roxbury. Come enjoy a night out of food, live Irish and classic rock music by "Tradition," dancing, a silent auction and raffles, while supporting AgeWell and making West Roxbury a community for all ages.

Tickets are on sale now and are only $35.00. Visit www.ethocare.org, call 617.477.6724 or email agewell@ethocare.org to support AgeWell volunteers and order your tickets to West Roxbury Rocks!

Finally, I would like to thank all of the Ethos volunteers, past and present, which have helped our organization, and the seniors of Southwest Boston throughout our 40-year history. Your service to the community is very much appreciated!

Regards,

Raymond Santos

Riding in the car

So yesterday afternoon, we took off for New York City to visit the East Coast Santos' and celebrate Valentina's first birthday. The big excitement was Max's new car seat. Due to him being the size of a 10 month old, at 6 months, he reached the height and weight limit of the infant car seat and needed to upgrade to the convertible car seat. He transitioned quite well. He and Teddy played and held hand a lot of the way and they both took a nap. we'll be doing a lot of driving this weekend to Jersey and Long Island, so we're happy the switch went well. Stay tuned!

Teddy's First Day at Preschool

Teddy had his first day at preschool. He's going to a great school, The Mosaic School, where his buddy from daycare, Jackson, is going. I think the boys were pretty excited to know they were going to go to school together. Here's a few pics from the morning. Enjoy!

Thank you all for the well wishes!!!

Danielle, Massimo, Teddy and I wanted to thank everyone for their well wishes today. The last 19 hours have been such a blur. It started for me at 4:00 am when Danielle woke me to tell me that she was having contractions. It was like a cup of coffee to hear that but, it was like a double-shot of espresso when we timed the contractions and found out they were only four minutes apart. An eyeopener for sure.

Our great friend Hilary dragged herself out of bed at 4:15 in the morning to come stay with Teddy while we went to the hospital and his grandparents made it down to watch him. Thank you Hil!!!

Once at the hospital things moved pretty quickly and "Max" was out in a couple of hours. Before today it was hard to imagine how I was going to love another child as much as I love my son Teddy. People say your heart grows so you can love all of your children. At 7:54 am, Danielle and I found out what that really means.

Anyway, on a lighter note, there were some funny quotes from the day that I wanted to share:

"Wow, that's a big head. Wow, those are some big shoulders. You made the right decision," said the Doctor on seeing Massimo's head and shoulders for the first time.

"That C-Section was wonderful," said Danielle as they were finishing the stitches after Massimo was born."

Thanks again for all of the congratulations and well wishes. More updates to follow. Stay tuned...

Raymond Edward "Teddy" and Massimo Luca "Max"

Teddy finally got to meet his little brother this afternoon. Massimo was excited too, so much so that he bought his big brother a present. Now, isn't that nice? Can't tell you how much I love my two boys. Here's a few pics from the meeting. Enjoy!!! - Ray

Introducing Massimo

Massimo Santos was born today, Friday 13, 2010, at 7:54 am. He weighs an even 10 lbs and is 20 inches long. Mommy and are both doing great. I think he looks like a little like his aunt Jessica and a little like Teddy.

We're still deciding on middle names so, if anyone has any good suggestions, send them along.

We'll be sending many more updates in the coming hours and days.

He successfully slept in his big boy bed last night and this morning we almost finished setting up his room. We just need to hem and hang the curtains! Pictures are attached.

Another Wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!

The Santos Family had another wonderful Memorial Day weekend. Drove down to the NY/NJ area so Teddy could spend some time with his grandfather and cousins Sabina and Patrick. It looks like they had fun.

Gung Ho Teddy

I
It's Marine week in Boston and the Devil Dogs brought examples of all of their vehicles to South Boston for an exhibition. Teddy and I got to go in and out of several helicoptors, including the new V-22 Osprey. We had such a blast. These are a few pics from the day. Enjoy!
